The vast majority of problems encountered when doing a mail merge (which is basically an import of data) are caused by the data itself. Review the file you are using for the mail merge in Wordpad and look specifically at the 296th record. There is probably an extra comma or double quote causing the fields in this record to be out of alignment:
Edit the subscriber name or address information in First Edition and export the file again for the mail merge:
